Hi Everyone.
I'm new to this forum and not sure if this is the right place to post this so be gentle.
I am needing help and advice in the professional arena on the following points below.
I am registered with SAMRO
1. I am writing music for a TV show. The Theme Jingle and the underlining music score throughout the show.
Should I register the music and jingle with SAMRO and sell the music to the client? How does the process work?
Is there a standard contract between the client and composer for mechanical use, if so where do I get that contract?
2. I have already written a Jingle for a Children’s TV Show and have Submitted it to SAMRO.
I was not the wiser and have not received any payment for it. As far as I know the show has not aired on TV yet.
Was this the correct way of approaching the job as I thought that the Royalties would suffice?
Should there of been a contract there as well between composer an client? Can I still compile the contract before it broadcasts?
I am new to this and I am in need of advice.
If I am not contacting the right department please refer me to the correct professionals.
Thank you in advance

Surely your contract, whether it's cookie cutter or not, should expressely stipulate in whom the IP vests?
At least, that's how it works in the software world.

Forward your question to PeteM on this forum, he does jingles and the like. I'm sure he will give you some really awesome advice.

I work in the film industry (not in the audio side of things) and as far as I know:
It's up to the client to fill out audio cue sheets for the broadcaster for the program to be aired.
If you register the music with SAMRO and the cue sheets state that your track is used you will get royalties.
You sell the music to be used in a particular program not the rights to it in its entirety.
