I'm obviously aware that this thread is meant to be fun - and this post is a bit serious - but its just to provide some context. One doesn't have to be embarrased to listen to any music (OK, maybe some.. ?). It's different strokes and horses for courses. I have an incredibly huge and eclectic music collection - and there are some strange bedfellows there. I wonder if my Tom Waits CDs don't try to reposition themselves away from my Human League's Greatest Hits or Adam and the Ants' Kings of the Wild Frontier while I'm sleeping at night. Maybe that's the sounds I hear in the living room when the lights are off! But they all have to stick around. I'll call for them all, in the right context and at the right time with the right audience.
This r serious thread?
I agree wholeheartedly. You find intellectual snobbery everywhere, not just in music.
I had a mate who couldn't accept that I could have a copy of Eco's "Name of the Rose" next to Stephen King's "The Stand" and Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" on my book shelf...
You have the gamers who refuse to acknowledge strat games other than Starcraft, or MMOs other than World of Warcraft. ?
I think that as you get older, you realise that it's a lot more fun to love what you love openly, and without fear of disdain, than to belong to some or other clique and miss out.
