Often at work I sits and thinks, and wishes I had my noodle with me to practise left hand fretting and chording. So I thinks a bit more, and had this idea:
Say you took the neck and headstock of a busted guitar, and sawed it off, say, 30 or 40cm from the nut. Next, put a second nut on the cut off end. On the butt (the sawed face), you drill holes for 6 screws, to which to you attach the strings. You could either do the same on the headstock side, or leave the headstock and tuners in place in order to tension the strings to approximate the feel of a complete axe. The height of the second nut would probably require some experimentation to get juuust right.
Et voila! A fretting and chording excercise tool that can be easily carried around and which doesn't take up space, for those times and places that you really just can't carry a full-sized axe around.
Hell, you could probably tokkel the thing if you really wanted to, as well.
Your thoughts?
If this is a decent idea, I might just make one. Where would I be able to find a busted old guitar? Gratis would of course be the preferred method of non-payment.
Cheers!
