Bass: Tony Levin electric upright
AlanRatcliffe
I posted these in the "Tuning in 5ths" thread on the Bass board, but thought somemight miss them there. I've posted a lot of clips of Tony playing the Stick before and many will know his work on electric bass, but he also plays a mean electric upright.
With King Crimson:
With Goatika:
Tony sure does get around and play in an eclectic mix of bands, but it's always good music...

Delicious ... long one of my favourites.

Interesting how those electric stand up thingies give you much better acccess to the high notes.
I have a DVD of Richard Thompson with Danny "no relation" Thompson in the band. One of the numbers they play is "Ghosts In The Wind" which is a spotlight number for Danny. He goes for arco bass way up high, but to make the high notes he has to stretch his arm over the body of the double bass - you wait for him to fall over (before you all rush out to buy the DVD he doesn't).

Wow! There can't be many videos out there where the most "ordinary" instrument in the ensemble is a clarinet! ?
I loved that second video with Goatika.

I liked the little Fender soprano electric guitar in that one too. I'd love to hear them work with a good ambient producer like Bill Laswell or Daniel Lanois.
Some more of Tony with Goatika:
With Tony on Stick and some nice electric violin:
With Huun Huur Tu doing some throat singing:

Speaking of Bill Laswell - I have a "well worn" copy of Imaginary Cuba... awesome stuff and must have been a kick off for world dub...
