Local tonewoods?

Kirfew

What local/indigenous woods have you guys used to make guitars before (eg. kiaat, jakaranda)?

Ray

Jacaranda is invasive alien so maybe not local ne. But overseas they talk about qa jacaranda which is not the jacaranda we get her so dont confuse that. But take a look here. I'm interested in the Mopane thing.

Kiaat is one of my favourite woods.
Smells really nice when cut.
Even used as a tradtional anti-septic.
Made many breadboards from it ... never tried a guitar body ...

Seems to be getting a little scarce.
The trees are relatively small ... so getting broad planks is always going to be difficult.
Has a huge variety of colour and grain.
Sap can be red ... hence sometimes called "bloodwood".

I make parts for Mervin Davis for his smoothtalker guitars, and they are all made from kiaat and indigenousness woods
