How serious is wear on the fret board?
I stripped my Squier today to paint it and I noticed wear on the fret board itself. seems I play the E chord a lot ha ha. As well as stay in certain areas on the neck.

As far as I'm aware, fret board wear isn't too much of an issue (depending, of course, on how deep the "wear" is). If it gets really deep, pressing the strings down too far would throw your tuning out. I'd be more worried about wear on the frets themselves.

not crtical imo depending on how bad it is.
think of scalloped boards and how much wood is missing..
sounds like yours is minimal anyways.. if it really worries you and you think the guitar is worth it.. a refret can fix it in a jiff.. when the frets are out they can sand your board making it look good as new..
otherwise no need to stress dude

I'm slowly upgrading this guitar bit by bit.
Right now the frets are small. I like bigger frets so that is on the cards soon.

Not an issue other than cosmetic. You can scrape the offending frets to remove the wear if it's not too deep.
Start keeping your left hand nails shorter to minimise wear.

I'm not sure I made the point clearly enough. The wear is on the wood itself.
I had some new frets put in about 2 years ago and they have yet to show signs of wear.

Two years and no signs of wear? Whoa! Good going, Don...
I think Alan was responding to wood-wear in his comment? (Either that, or his left-hand nails have a serious keratin content.)

Well, it was the first 3 frets and since then I've been playing across more of the guitar.
On close inspection there is some wear, not much though.
guidothepimmp
yup.. comments are directed at wood wear..

Yeah, I was talking the wood of the board rather than the frets themselves.
Speaking fret wear - I was just examining the stainless frets on my Strat the other day and was pleased to note not even the smallest amount of wear after three years.

ditto Alan...
my stainless steel frets have 2 odd years of use and no wear at all..
best investment i made
