Everyone has different taste, thank heavens for that, but a statement that an album is inherently bad is just something that I think no-one is qualified to make, even if he's been a music connoisseur for 40 years. At most, I think he can say that this music doesn't speak to him and he wouldn't waste his money on it. But at the same time another person might find it good and well worth his money.
Which is really a euphemistic way of saying "it's crap" or "in my opinion it's crap".
Look, I hear what you're saying here, but there has to be some way, maybe a polite, not too blunt way, of indicating that you really don't think this movie/album/poem/novel whatever is not up to scratch. Otherwise criticism and opinion will become meaningless.
It's always a good thing to have a dissenting perspective so that there's some balance, so that there's a check against the meaningless torrent of bland praise. This might not achieve much really, several literary critics took the not unreasonable view that
The da Vinci Code was rubbish, but the public thanked them for their opinion (if they paid any attention to it) and carried on regardless. But at least the alternate view was there for consideration. It might even have been wrong, and certainly was out of step with popular opinion, but it was there. You could read it and double check your own verdict.
