Well, since distressing a guitar is fantasy anyway, this is also alternative history, right? There's that famous Peter Jackson "documentary" about the discovery of cinema in New Zealand well before it's actual invention. Fooled the public (made them pretty mad when they found out though).
I can just see myself answering at a gig, "Verilli were an Italian company that made illicit copies of Fender Strats in the early '60s using a mixture of smuggled Fender and Gibson parts."
Nah, I wouldn't really. But it's all part of the fantasy, right?
