I agree with you. In fact, that is the main reason I dislike our anthem (and not from a political perspective). I think Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika is a beautiful song and I also think "Die Stem" is a beautiful song. Each, in the own right, wonderful pieces of music. But this bastard slap-together of two songs does neither justice and is certainly not worthy of a national anthem.
And even from a political point of view the anthem doesn't make sense to me. I think we'd have been far better off getting something brand new, something telling our story, and something that makes musical sense.
