... Ive heard of some people finding some amazing things like a Gibson The Paul for R400!!!! ?
don't hold your breathe for something like that .cos pawn shop owners are becoming quite clued up because of the internet .so the chances of finding a les paul gibson is minimal ...... cos they do google the guitars they get in..... what i have found is that sometimes a guitar will be quite beat up ect ...... and then they think it has no value cos of the dings ........ and obscure equipment is what is the best find....... like boutique fx pedals that they think should sell for the same as a boss pedal ........ ? i have bought a lot of gear in last 3 years from pawn shops.. but nothing like a les paul for R400 i do think those days are gone........ but maybe a great 80's ibanez for R1500 is more likely
but hey good luck and i will keep my fingers crossed you find that R400 les paul ...
also some pawn shop are getting overpriced just yesterday i found a nice suzuki SG copy from 80's really nice guitar( i especialy love 70's or 80's guitars so they always catch my interest ) ...... in good nick but the owner wanted R2500 for it i offered R1500 ( which i woulda paid even R1700 ) but he didn't bite saying they worth R5000 on the internet and he wanted his price . i just smiled and left ... i'll go back in 6 weeks if he still has it he'll sell it for R1500
my reasoning is anything under R2000 is an instant buy if i'm even vagely interested cos what can you buy new for R2000 but over that i tend to be less eager to buy ........ i alwayd consider that if it's under R2000 one can always resell it for what you paid and at worst get your money back but once the price gets higher it's a tougher "re sell" cos my secret too is i buy a lot and then sell off what i don't like..cos quite often some guitars are diamonds in the rough but one truly only discovers that once you restring em and set up the action ect .....
