We didn't bother to go in yesterday because of the rain. And last night Aparna's immobiliser started acting up again so I don't even know if we even have transport today >☹

Also, we don't have a TV antenna hooked up ☹

Three living legends in one series.

Tendulkar, Dravid and Kallis.

Kallis is still the greatest player ever... Kla... (No arguments please)

Approaching 12000 test runs and 270 wickets AND 166 catches.. Not many players match those incredible stats! ?

He's good, but the best? I don't think so.

My personal pick is WG Grace. In his prime he was the best player in the world by miles. Only Bradman has a comparable margin over his contemporaries.

Stats across eras are a dodgy proposition. Players play a lot more these days (Bradman was never going to get 12000 runs with the number of matches he played in a year), conditions change (Grace played on pitches that are unimaginable to even club players these days) etc etc.

I was in my workshop when I heard the roar from up the road ... ?

OK.... maybe SF Barnes as well. Though he was a specialist bowler so the stats, even against his contemporaries, are less easily compared. When I talk of Grace's superiority over his contemporaries I refer to his batting (though his bowling was pretty useful).

To be fair to Kallis, He isn't the best ever Batsman, but he must qualify as one of the best Cricketers of all time or at least in his generation.
Just like Gary Kirsten he seems to be getting better with age, 6 centuries in 2010, and already the leading run scorer and centurion of 2011 ?

In all forms of the games he is pretty constant!

I certainly take my hat off to him

guidothepimmp

kallis lost all credibilty with those cheesy sanex ads.

thats like kerry king jamming a hello kitty strat

?

His hair is certainly getting better with age

+1 I have to agree. I would even throw in Barry Richards as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

No argument to the greatest all round cricketer IMO, Kallis and thats it...

I cant take the guys seriously who 'only played' 52 Tests, Don Bradman, almost got to 7000 runs, but If he played another 50 would he still have averaged 99??? We'll never know... But I just have the feeling that he would not have consistently done it... surely not...

Same with Barry Richards, unfortunately he only got 4 Test matches to prove his worth. averaged around 70 I think. But as the tales are told. He was one magnificent player.

I think Tendulkar, Kallis and Ponting are the greatest of our time...

Kallis and Ponting more so.. They never get to play on the dust bowls of the sub continent year in and year out..

South Africa and Australia have the lowest runs per wicket in test cricket. SA the lowest, (figure is around 36 runs per wicket if Im not mistaken, India was around 53)

Hence it is twice as difficult to bat in SA than India ?, hence SA Players that average, 56... and Kallis averages much more at home on top of that.. Have to be the greatest...

Kallis is Epic...

Do you see those drives yesterday? :-[ I dream of playing shots like that ?

IceCreamMan

his poor audi gonna bear the brunt i suspect

He's fat.

You need HD DSTV... Your Aspect Ratio from watching on SS2 is distorting your perceptions ?

Most would say Sobers. I might plump for Imran or Miller if I were feeling argumentative. Botham was briefly the best all-rounder ever, but not over the length of his career. Which brings us to...

But he did. And over a long period of time. First series was 1930.something last was 1948. 16 years at least (I know he played in 1932). The number of matches, thus the number of opportunities per year was much less than it is now. The thing really is not his average of 99.whatever but his average relative to his contemporaries. If they'd been averaging in the 90s we would conclude that it was really very easy going for batsmen then. But it was only Bradman who got that kind of average, nobody else was even close. Conclusion: Bradman was amazingly good.

Ditto for Grace. Now remember what I said about stats. His batting average doesn't look that great to modern eyes - not helped by his playing on until way past his sell by date (he was past his best when Test cricket arrived and was still an automatic pick, probably the first pick, for England). Now digest this: Grace got his 50th hundred in his 11th season. Good? Bad? Indifferent? You had to take the records of the next 13 best players over that period of time to get another 50 hundreds. Conclusion: Grace was from another planet. The first sporting superstar.

Kallis is a classic player, right out of the text books. And yes, his driving is especially elegant - as it should be for somebody with a classic technique.

161 and he made the tail wag!

Who cares about trying to compare all the cricketers past and present, the fact is Jacques Kallis is doing it in 2011 and doing it well ?

Bob-Dubery

Squonk wrote 161 and he made the tail wag!

Yes. He managed the tail very well. India should be peeved that we made 300. They should have had us out for less than that. A very good knock by Kallis. Add in that double hundred in the first match and he's looking to be in pretty good form right about now.

Ray

You dont think he's a bit fat? And funny hair?

Squonk

Better looking than Wayne Rooney and he had his hair for longer ?

ithink so

bit like that ulhaq and warne feller

Ray wrote You dont think he's a bit fat? And funny hair?

I think he's on the stocky side, don't know about fat.

Maybe he does a lot of weights. Maybe he has a puffy face from taking cortisone.
