PeteM Why? Well, I landed a job to mix an album of 8 numbers to be completed by the end of January. My client is a keyboard player and singer who is able to record his tracks in his home studio but recognises his shortcoming regarding mixing. He has done fairly elaborate arrangements with a number of tracks - piano, strings, woodwinds, French horn, vocals etc. He has used synth bass to hold the bottom end but I will play bass guitar as and when necessary. I will also be adding the guitar parts when needed as well as recording bagpipes and a violin in my studio for two of the numbers. He and I work with different software programmes so he will be bringing the separate tracks on a portable hard drive for me to do the mix on my system. I will compile and make the album CD-ready and he will get the copy run done by another party. This is a religious album and my client has already established a niche market in the States through a mentor there and he will be making 1 000 CD copies for the first run. If this goes well, then more albums and releases are in the pipeline. 8) Footnote: I might add that when I retired, I had not considered music as an added source of income but by default, and with not much marketing, more and more music business is coming way - teaching, playing, writing, recording, mixing and producing - I'm having a jol.
aja you are too young to retire anyway. 85 or so is a good age to get into the bucket just before it falls over
PeteM aja wrote you are too young to retire anyway. 85 or so is a good age to get into the bucket just before it falls over ? I had no intention of retiring - just thought I would be doing video production and not music.
singemonkey It's exciting stuff man. You must give us a peek at the results when you're done. Now how about producing a basic video for him for youtube while you're at it?
PeteM singemonkey wrote Now how about producing a basic video for him for youtube while you're at it? Yeah, but unfortunately his mate, a pro video producer, will be doing that for him for nothing or at least at minimum cost.
