Hammeron
My style of playing is Thrash/Hard Rock.
I am currently playing an Epiphone Goth Explorer which I am quite happy with.
I would, however, like to get myself a Jackson.
I am into chunky, lightning fast, doom riffing as opposed to shredding.
What model would you go for?
{REALLY like the look of the PDX Demmelition King V}
Sweet! :-[
MikeM
Can you give us some YT examples of lightning fast doom riffing?
Hammeron
OK let me re-phrase that.
Doom riffing - Six feet under and Black Sabbath.
Lightning fast riffing - Megadeth and Testament.
Chunky riffing - Sepultura.
Yea?

that will be perfect.
I might take some time to get use to a king V, if you gonna sit and play.
The guitar you mentioned will cover every part of metal. The trick is where it is going to an amplifier that makes the biggest difference in metal.
What amp are you using?
IceCreamMan
always loved the jenna jameson king V sigh ..if only .... ?
Hammeron
What amp are you using?
Marshall VS 65 R.
Am looking at upgrading to 100watt Marshall combo.
Would like to stick with Marshall.
inflames
Manny is correct on the amp question.
What 100W combo do you have in mind?
The King V would be great for your needs.
guidothepimmp
kv2 from the pro series. that comes stock with.sd pups
there is also a model with emgs.
i would choose carefully when.choosng.from the js range. they have some good ones but have some lemons too
Hammeron
@ Inflames.
Apparently Marshall have stopped building the valvestates.
I think the new line is more valve than state so to speak.
Is it the MA? Not sure of the model but it does come in a 100w combo.

Be wary of the new Marshalls. I tried a Haze 40 in the shop the other day and 10 minutes into my little test it died after making a loud 'POP!' sound. Also, the relay switching on that amp is a bit poo, it makes noises when switching effects and it takes about 0.5 s to switch channels/effects etc. Don't think the new Marshalls are quite up to the same standard as the older UK models.
Another thing to think about is just how loud a 100 watt amp is. I can guarantee you that you don't need an amp that big. 40 - 50 watt is all you'll ever need.
guidothepimmp
agree with ezietsman..
100w valve is total overkill..
id say 30-50w is enough..
unless you want to strip paint off walls..
Hammeron
Cool.
Then what would you recommend in the 30-50w range for my preffered style-heavy rock/thrash - to plug the PDX V into?
{I do have a 30w Zoom modelling amp which is quite cool, this was my first amp}
ezietsman
That will of course depend on how much money you have ?
Hammeron
I'm a sixteen year old, so let's take it easy! Gotta run this past my old man, know what I mean? :-[
{I am female, which counts in my favor! :'(}

In all honesty, your Valvestate 65 R is a pretty decent amp for that style. A better amp will cost you at least R5000. If you like that sort of sound, check out the Blackstar HT20 and HT40, they're priced around R6500 - R9000 here. Youtube will provide sound examples. These amps excel at that thick distortion type thing. There's others, obviously, but I know these best. Also check Randall, Mesa Boogie(Expensive), line6, Vox AD (I think there's a heavy metal version), Roland Cube.

Thanks lads, much appreciated.
Having my own 3 piece outfit means we perform live quite often and there is usually a PA involved, so one doesn't need a monster amp as you've put it.
So, on the Jackson side, the KV2 pro series are the best but are probably less affordable than the PDX.
One last question and we call it a day:
What is the best V of all time? 8)

Sorry for hijacking a bit.. But how much does a nice Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifer Head with Cab cost here in SA?
