EHX POG power supply

Hi, I'm new to the forum... although I've been lurking in the background following some very useful posts for a while now.
Great forum btw.

I have a question re power supply for the EHX POG. Bought one off Ebay recently and it finally arrived yesterday.
Can't wait to get it up and running.

It came with the EHX power supply (flat 2 prong USA version - although it says made in China ? ).

The info on the plug says:
Input - 120V AC , 60Hz, 0.2A
Output - 18 V DC, 500mA

My question is how do I get it to work on local voltage/electricity levels.....I'm completely clueless when it comes to electronics.
Don't want to plug it in and end up frying the circuitry.
Do I need some kind of (expensive and exotic) transformer plug to change the voltage?
Or can I just hook it up to a 3 prong local type plug and flick the 'on' switch?

I have EHX Little Big Muff which works fine in my daisy chain with no converters or anything else needed.

Help! ? - dying to plug it in and play!

On their web site EHX list a Micro POG and a POG2 in their current model range.

For the Micro POG they note: "WARNING: Use only the 9.6VDC/200mA AC adapter the Micro POG comes supplied with.Do not use any other AC adapters. Using other AC adapters, even those made by Electro-Harmonix, could cause harm to the unit, the adapter or you. "

For the POG2: "9V Power Jack - Plug the output of the supplied AC Adapter into the 9V power jack located at the top of the POG2. The POG2 requires 180 mA at 9 VDC with a center negative plug. The POG2 accepts Boss style AC Adapters."

So I'd think using an 18v power supply is not a good idea. Especially if it's 120vAC in and 18vDC out.

The problem is not the pedal. The problem is the power supply. You want a power supply that will, when plugged into an SA power point, give the required voltage at the required current. We see from the above that the requirements are not the same for all EHX pedals. However if you have the POG2 then it would seem that you can use a BOSS adapter - and those should be easily enough available.

You have the 110V US version of the correct power supply, but you need the 220V version. Whatever you do, don't plug in the power supply to local voltage. There are two things you can do: 1. try get the 220V version from Marshall Music (the local distributors). 2. Get a 220V - 110V stepdown transformer form an electrical store.

The POG 2 which is the newest version runs on following (according to manual):

I however have the older model though and in the manual it says:

So Alan what you say makes sense...guess I'll have to give Marshall a buzz then.

option, but it would maybe be best to get the proper EHX local version rather, right? Or would the stepdown
be just as safe?

Don't really want to take the chance of frying the pedal.

You already have the right supply for the pedal, but the supply needs to see 110V at the input. This is the kind of thing you need: http://shop.rabtron.co.za/catalog/220v-110v-foreign-travel-converter-p-2155.html That plugs into a two pin socket and your supply plugs into it.

The only advantage of the 220V version of the EHX supply is that you don't have to mess around with any extra bits. I'm also pretty sure that if you use any decent supply that can give the required 18V 500mA, it'll still work - regardless of any warmings to the contrary.

I have a similar question. Soon Im going to be ordering the Voodoo Labs PP2+ from ProGuitarShop but upon close reading I discovered they only ship out the 110v one. What would you recommend I do in that case? I don't really want to have extra transformers but I suppose if I have to I must.

Some of these power supplies are switchable between 110V and 230V and vice versa. I know some of the T-rex models are like that. So maybe check that first. Alternatively you are going to have to purchase a step down transformer in order to give it life. ?

+1. Otherwise, you could always support the local distributor and buy the 230V version locally.

Just to finish off my idea about the Voodoo labs pedal. So ive got some pictures of what the rear looks like (of the unit boys, of the unit haha)

I dont see no switch, so Im assuming if I had to get the 110v one I would need a step-down transformer. Unless I just get the 230v one, but I really dont want to pay R2000+ for this item as good as it may be.

Also, do you know if the unit comes with cables that act as a 2 way daisy chain. ie splitting the current from one DC output into 2 pedals, as I certainly have more than the required 8 pedal threshold

They are not switchable input power, but come in different models, US (110V), Japan (100V) and European (230V).

Included Cables
5.5x2.1mm right angle barrel connectors (6)
5.5x2.1mm straight barrel connectors (2)
5.5x2.5mm “red” barrel for L6 (1)
3.5mm mini plug for vintage MXR or Electro-Harmonix (1)
9V battery snap for pedals without a power jack (1)

So, you'd have to order a daisy cable too.

I would avoid getting a step-down transformer because its likely to be quite heavy. The better option would be to just order the adaptor suited for S.A. from the manufacturer.
